Advice: Writing/Getting Published

I know a lot of people are looking for advice about writing books, and how to get published. You will see this is a short post.

To be honest, the industry’s still a mystery to me. If anyone asks me for advice, I always start by replying, ‘you might want to ask someone else, it took me several books and twenty years.’

But if you were to press me further, I’d advise:

• Write well.

• It always helps to be nice.

• And try — try really hard — to get lucky.

It’s unhelpful, I’m afraid. But it really is all I know.
